about hawaiki surfboards...
Hi girls,
Thanks for visiting Hawaiki Surfboards; I am a
passionate surfer, I love
surfboard designs and I am also very passionate
about the
ocean environment and
my culture.
You may be wondering what
Hawaiki means?
My ancestors come from
Hawaiki, it is a mythical island paradise in the Pacific where the New Zealand Maori people came from; I find that
surfing takes me back to that place of unity with my roots and mother earth, back to
Hawaiki.I grew up in
New Zealand where I developed my
great love for the ocean, however it wasn't until I moved to Sydney,
Australia in 1998 that I really started surfing. As a young surfer girl I felt quite intimidated in a male dominated sport, particularly when it came to
understanding surfboards. In 2004 I moved to Kirra, on the Gold Coast to complete a
Diploma in Surfing Sport
Management. After successfully completing this I worked for one of the worlds leading surfboard manufacturing companies
.
I have also worked for
surf schools and in
surfboard stores where I built a lot of the framework about providing the right surfboards for girls.
I set up this website www.girlsurfboards.com back in 2007
to educate surfer girls about surfboards so they could feel more confident when looking in stores for the right surfboard.
Then in 2008, I decided that I would
develop my own range of surfboards made specifically for girls. I was aware that many other sports equipment providers offered
differently designed products for women and men, such as golf clubs; and
I knew that it was important for surfboards to be made to suit the
female body for better surfing performance and enjoyment.
Working with world class shapers and girl surfers of many different abilities,
hours of research and
development,
in 2009 I released my first range of surfboards made for girls,
Hawaiki Surfboards.All of the
Hawaiki Surfboards are made specifically for women and girl surfers of all surfing abilities.
Hawaiki Surfboards are
100% Australian Made from the
best quality materials available
. To give back to the environment a portion of all surfboard sales go towards a campaign to
Remove the Shark Nets from
Australian waters
